The nice part was that we split the meat and expense evenly. That was the worst hike of my life and I was in awesome physical shape then. The next year, we only had 3 of us and we had to pack out a nice bull from about 3 miles. The first year we had 5 people and packed out 2 elk (two days a part). We usually split up in groups of 2 or 3 to hunt and all got together to pack out. ![]() After the first was down, everyone could wait on a trophy. The other rule they had was about the first person to come across a "shooter" (legal for their tag), was suppose to pull the trigger so we all went home with meat. They had a great public area that they hunted each year and it was productive. ![]() Your first year, you were an apprentice and was there to put your time in and help pack out. We would go in groups of 3 to 5 to help each other pack out. 13 years ago, I was part of an annual Elk hunt camp from NE Kansas.
